ACOA Invests in Outdoor Fitness Centre In Saint Andrews
The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced an investment of $70,294 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) for Saint Andrews Outdoor Recreation and Trails Inc. The Town of Saint Andrews also announced a $23,432 contribution towards the project.
“Strong, vibrant communities in New Brunswick are a critical part of a robust and inclusive economic recovery," said Petitpas Taylor. "Investing in shared outdoor spaces like this wellness park in Saint Andrews will help revitalize local economies, boost tourism, create jobs, and give residents a place to come together safely.”
This support will allow the organization to create a wellness park with eight exercise stations in Saint Andrews. The park will be located at the Point adjacent to the trails and will improve community access to outdoor recreation and enhance health and wellness for all ages and levels of mobility. Saint Andrews is designated as an Age-Friendly Community, and the addition of an outdoor fitness centre that is free to use for all adds to the town's appeal as an accessible wellness destination.
“As an Age-Friendly Community, it is important that we strive to develop free accessible recreation options for our residents and visitors," said David Johnson, President, Saint Andrews Outdoor Recreation and Trails Inc. "Recreation is the cornerstone to breaking barriers and developing opportunities for inclusion, exercise, learning, and socialization. Through our strong partnership with the Canadian Government, the Saint Andrews Outdoor Recreation and Trails Inc, and the Town of Saint Andrews, we are able to provide this new recreation and social asset to our community."
