Alzheimer's Unveiled: Exploring the Depths of Memory's Challenges

The surge in dementia and Alzheimer's cases is prompting significant civic concerns not only in Vancouver, BC, but also in numerous other communities.

Addressing these issues is crucial, particularly considering the prevalent misidentification of normal forgetfulness as "Alzheimer's" by individuals experiencing memory lapses related to keys, items, or people's names.

Journalist Sherry, along with hosts Poran and Samira, actively immersed themselves in a dialogue with their guest Dr. Asgari concerning this important issue.

Addressing the Alzheimer's issue is crucial for our community as it directly impacts individuals' ability to navigate daily life; instances of people losing their way home highlight the urgent need for awareness and support to enhance the quality of life for those affected.

Poran initiated the discussion by referencing the 2020 Lancet Commission report on dementia prevention, which identified nine common risk factors: obesity, smoking, depression, physical inactivity, diabetes, low social contact, limited education, hypertension, and hearing impairment. Dr. Asgari elaborated on these risk factors during the interview, shedding light on their implications.

Sherry delved into the conversation by questioning the guest speaker about recognizing signs and symptoms. Dr. Asgari emphasized that forgetfulness often serves as an early indicator of dementia.
