Anmore Community Hub Now Open to the Community

After spending over a decade conducting their civic duties in portable trailers, the council and employees of the Village of Anmore now have a new Community Hub to call home.

Built at a total cost of $8.5 million, the first purpose-built structure for the village came in on budget with the assistance of over $2.5 million in federal and provincial funding.

The 16,000 sq. ft. building houses a fully equipped community hall, clerical offices, a modern meeting room for the village council, room for a potential café/bakery in the future, and much more. On the main level are located numerous pictures of past village councils as well as a corner dedicated to the "Ma Murray House" where the council had once served until it was condemned back in 2012.

Unfortunately, the historic Ma Murray house could not be salvaged after years of neglect and had to be torn down to make room for the new Community Hub despite efforts that were made to save the heritage home.

The Hub still has approximately $400,000 worth of work yet to be done primarily in the basement to link to Spirit Park outside the building. In May of 2023, the federal government agreed to contribute an additional $375,000 to cover 75% of the cost of upgrading Spirit Park as well. By the end of 2024, the whole project is expected to be completed.

Almost 400 people came out to observe the ribbon cutting and to take a tour of the new facility. Among those who attended were MP Ron McKinnon ( Coquitlam - Port Coquitlam ) & MP Bonita Zarrillo ( Coquitlam - Port Moody ), MLA's Rick Glumac & Fin Donnelly, Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart, and Belcarra mayor Jamie Ross as well, of course, as the Anmore council and mayor John McEwen who was master of ceremonies.
