Cameras to be Introduced in Local Municipal Parks

Cameras set to be introduced in local Municipal Parks: 6 surveillance cameras approved in November 2020 for the 2021 budget by the local City Council.

In November 2020 the Clarence-Rockland Municipal Council confirmed that 6 surveillance cameras would be placed within the local municipal parks and should start being put up throughout the local region as early as 2021.

Though 25 were suggested, the Clarence-Rockland City Council decided to take a more cautious approach by installing 6 to ensure that the cameras in question are the right type and to see what impact they will have on the local bylaw officers workload.

We spoke to City Councilor, Don Bouchard to find out a little more, saying that 6 cameras in the park will be a pilot project to reassure that tax payers dollars were being spent correctly. Including, but not limited to, that they are purchasing the correct cameras, that they are not creating more work for the bylaw officers and more.

Despite opposition from other councilors the city will be receiving more surveillance thanks to these cameras and will hopefully help diminish crime in areas such as the local skatepark without having tp spend an excess of $60,000 as was proposed by Yves Roy, the Manager of the Municipal Law Enforcement Service in his original plan.

Councilor Bouchard also explained that they managed to reduce the local budget by almost 2% from the forecasted 4% without having too compromise the expensive projects such as re-surfacing roads and more which will come as good news for the residents of Clarence-Rockland.
