Cape Breton Partnership and Eastern Counties Regional Library - Roundtable #3

ARICHAT - This week's edition of Roundtable sits "around the table" at the recent Committee of the Whole meeting for Richmond Municipal Council, which took place at the council chambers in Arichat on November 8, 2021.

At 1:36, we'll hear from three members of the Cape Breton Partnership (CBP): Carla Arsenault (CEO), Megan Watt (Economic Development Officer for Richmond County and the Town of Port Hawkesbury), and Omar Tag El-Din (Labour Market Development and Immigration Officer).

Established as an independent body to stimulate economic development across Cape Breton Island, the CBP is also heavily involved in such sectors as immigration and settlement, tourism, affordable housing and community growth.

As well, at 23:26, the Chief Executive Officer of Eastern Counties Regional Library (ECRL), Laura Emery, updates the library network's activities in the Strait Area and joins with Clair Rankin of the St. Peter's library branch with some exciting developments about a potential new location for the branch.

While the COVID-19 pandemic and its accompanying social-distancing protocols in Nova Scotia have hobbled the ECRL's activities over the past eighteen months, Emery is optimistic about the introduction of several new programs at the library network's branches in Richmond, Inverness and Guysborough Counties. The ECRL is also in the preliminary stages of relocating its present St. Peter's location to a much larger venue - the former home of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission (NSLC) on the village's main thoroughfare, Grenville Street.

This footage from the Committee of the Whole meeting for Richmond Municipal Council was filmed and formatted by Nick Boudreau and Becky Bourinot of Telile Community Television.
