Civic Platform: Job Interview Tips for Winnipeg Newcomers

A job interview can be one of the most formidable tasks for job seekers. Feelings of fear and anxiety are the two most common challenges among applicants.  

At this point, questions abound: What should I wear? What will they ask me? How do I handle complicated questions? What do I start talking about? All these questions make the interview process worrisome.  

Manitoba Start has made job seekers' lives easier by organizing an Interview Skills Workshop slide presentation every Friday that answers these questions and more. Manitoba Start also conducts job interviews that simulate realistic interviews to help people  break the barrier of fear and anxiety. Chris Brown, Job Developer, Manitoba Start, is the guest for this episode of Civic Platform.  

Brown answers some of the most frequently asked questions among job seekers and explains what a job interview is, its stages, and how we should act at each stage. Brown said that job interviews in Winnipeg are not impossible or complicated if we understand their purpose and how to convince employers that we are the right person for this job. These steps include preparing for the interview in terms of clothing, make-up, the method of answering, and how to sit, whether in person or in an interview over the Internet.  

Brown stresses the need to show positivity and optimism during the interview, as a self-confident person has a greater chance of getting the job.
