Coquitlam Library Unveils It's New Library Link Vehicle
Samantha Wink, Manager of Marketing and Communications for the Coquitlam Public Library visits with host Nancy Furness to keep our viewers up to date on what's happening at the Coquitlam Public Library, which is Wink points out is much more than books.
The Coquitlam Public Library recently unveiled their new Library Link vehicle which is a much needed replacement for their old library link vehicle which has served the community well but was much in need of a replacement. The Coquitlam Mobile Library has had 56,000+ visits since the service began in 2009.
The Library Link provides a vital service for those with mobility issues or for what ever reason are unable to easily make it out to either Poirier or Town Centre Library. It brings library services, books, movies, video games, and more to locations all over Coquitlam.
This new vehicle features improved staff facilities, a wheelchair/stroller lift, modernized air-conditioning and heating for any wild weather, better tech support with quieter and stronger generators that provide independent power for our systems and Wi-Fi. The entire body of the bus is covered in an exquisite painting of swimming salmon by well-known Indigenous artist, Kelly Cannell.
The new Library Link was unveiled by the Coquitlam Public Library, its board of trustees, city councillors, and Mayor Stewart on Feb. 6, the party outside the Poirier branch drew a number of VIPs to see the new set of wheels.
In June 2022, city council budgeted $636,000 to buy a new Library Link. At the time, city staff said the Library Link would be on the road by the summer of 2023. Funding for the new Library Link came from Coquitlam's Land Sales Reserve Investment Fund: the vehicle will be owned and maintained by the municipality and operated by library staff.
