COVID-19 --- 1200 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to be deployed next week in Eastern Ontario!
Happy New Year! TVC News is back. This week (January 7th) in your weekly Clarence-Rockland news:
Dr. Roumeliotis explained that the number of positive COVID-19 cases is still very high in Ontario and Canada. Ontario is starting to stabilize with about 3000 new cases per day, most of them coming from Toronto (GTA), but the number of positive cases is starting to increase in Ottawa as well, with the capital city announcing triple figures on Monday. Several health units in Ontario, including the EOHU, are well above the "red zone", suggesting that the current "lockdown" is still needed. In Prescott-Russell, there are 213 active cases;
Dr. Roumneliotis also announced that Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine will be available in the region as early as next week, with 1200 doses to be administered according to provincial guidelines. These 1200 doses will be delivered from Ottawa, but in the future, Pfizer's vaccine will be delivered to Hawkesbury General Hospital where it will be stored. Moderna and other vaccines will be available soon. Five vaccination sites for long-term care staff will be announced shortly, as well as a transportation pilot project to provide vaccines to people in long-term care as well. Although both are administered in two doses, the deployment of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be somewhat different. Since Pfizer has established a reliable supply chain for every 1,000 doses received, 1,000 vaccinations will take place. But with Moderna vaccine, for now, the EOHU will take a somewhat more conservative approach by vaccinating 500 people for every 1,000 doses received ;
Elementary school children still have to be sent back to school next week, although Dr. Roumeliotis said he is slightly reluctant to do so. Currently, containment in Eastern Ontario is scheduled to end on January 23, but this could change if the number of new cases does not decrease ;
The "Safe Trade" project is being launched in Russell with two parking spaces outside the Embrun and Clarence-Rockland police stations to provide local residents with a safe space to conduct online transactions. Whether you are a seller or a buyer, you don't have to worry about meeting a complete stranger thanks to this feature;
New educational and employment opportunities available this summer thanks to a program offered by the Hawkesbury Employment Services Centre. The goal of the program is to provide additional training to produce 20 skilled workers to fill the gaps in demand in the local labour market;
And how to enjoy the winter in Clarence-Rockland... safely.
