Gabriola Island's The Infinite Atom are Buoyed by Community Support

In a community where country and folk have been the musical mainstays, The Infinite Atom are a brash, alt-rock exception. Their recent sold-out concert at the Gabriola Theatre Centre is a welcome indication that young musical artists can still make a go of it on the island.

Young people often have difficulty finding affordable housing and work here, but The Infinite Atom have persisted and in the process brought a lot of joy to Gabriola, not to mention a boost to the local artistic economy.

In this interview with Life on Gabriola TV’s Althea Rasendriya, band members Adam Larson (lyrics/vocals), José Vieira (lead guitar), Gavin Reekie (bass guitar), and Mikey Swallow (drums) discuss how the band originated, how the community’s support has buoyed them, and their upcoming first album.

They also reflect on the joys of becoming friends through music and why no two of their shows are ever likely to be the same.

Interspersed are songs from the band.
