Hear Her Politics - EMPOWER WOMEN in Politics to Get Involved.
Hear Her Politics is an initiative for women about women.
As we all know, there is a gap when it comes to Women in Politics. Awareness for women to run for local office, provincially and even federally needs to improve.
Did you know that female representation at the municipal level in Canada falls below many South American, African and European countries? At the federal level, only 64 women hold seats in the 308-seat House of Commons,-- that's 21%. Worldwide, Canada lags behind other countries in the number of women involved in the legislature.
Have you ever thought about running for city council? In this program, we talk about all things from how to raise money to how to fill in your paper work. Whether you want to be in the public eye or work on a campaign this program can help you get started.
We hope you enjoy our speakers in what they have to say about women in politics:
Chris Mckinnon, wife of MLA Ron McKinnon spoke about how she supported her husband in his various campaign elections.
Nicola Spurling, candidate Green Party spoke about being transgendered and how it affected her campaign.
Priscilla Omula our opening speaker delivered our land acknowledgement.
Ellen Woodsworth, Vancouvers' first lesbian city councillor spoke about breaking the barriers and how she helps women nwo through her company.
Sonia Fursteneau, MLA Cowichan Valley and Leader of the Green Party spoke about how to rise up as a woman and the importance of having a voice at the table.
Join us as we EMPOWER WOMEN in Politics to get involved.
