HON COVID Update March 18th 2020

A re-post of Gareth Smart's Facebook Live show, which starts at 11am, bringing you the newest CORONA virus information, from Ashcroft/Cache Creek, the interior, the Province, and the country, but not necessarily in order.

In our community:

Elizabeth Fry Society is closed for public access. E.Fry is the food bank and counselling service.

The Equality project is till open with their regular hours in Cache Creek.

The Auxiliary thrift store is closed until it is deemed safe to re-open, please hang onto your donations until this is over.

The Ashcroft early years’ service is cancelling all play groups until further notice.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump have closed the Canada/USA border to all non-essential service.

All bars and clubs are closed until further notice, including the River Inn and the Oasis.

Ester Lang has set up a service to pick up groceries/prescription and mail for anyone that is unable to get these items on their own. Ester is also looking for volunteers. Ester, David and Vicky are all doing something similar if you are looking for options.

From the Ashcroft Bakery: "We are open but ask for physical distancing. Arrangements can be made for deliveries for anyone in isolation."

Unitea has made the decision to close their doors until this is pandemic is over. Please stay safe.

There is a community impact survey handled by Community Futures. This survey is supported and will be given to various levels of government.

From the BC School Board: "After following advice from scientist and health authorities, we have come to decision to close all schools until further notice. We are coming up with ways to keep some form school open for people working in the essential service sector. Everyone will receive a final mark and every student eligible to move on to the next grade will do so, including children in grade 12. BC teachers will return to work after spring break to discuss next steps".

There is a COVID-19 self-assessment tool, at covid19.thrive.health created by the government. You can complete this yourself or on someone’s behalf. Mostly this self-assessment tool says that if you have any symptoms self-isolate for 14 days and or call 811 for more information. Gareth takes the survey live.

Justin Trudeau's daily statement summary: A temporary boost to the child benefit payments giving 2 billion is addition support. A new emergency care benefit for workers including self employed workers who would not normally be eligible for EI. A 6-month interest free reprieve on student loan payments, an extension of tax payment, 305 million dollars for the Indigenous communes, and other moneys put aside for the homeless and people fleeing domestic abuse.

There is a steep increase of cases in BC. BC has declared a state of emergency to protect BC residents, this includes stopping gathering or 50 people or more, and restaurants, must move to a take-out model only. Tests are available for all those who need them, but not everyone requires a test.

Thank and stay tuned tomorrow for our next update.
