Kimia: A Social and Artistic Initiative Uplifting the Iranian Community in West Vancouver
Several members of the Iranian community in West Vancouver have formed a social and artistic organization named "Kimia" to contribute to the advancement of society in social and creative fields. The group consists of professionals from the community.
Majid Mahichi – Local Journalism Initiative
Dr. Majid Sherkat, a board member, says that Kimia is named after his daughter, who has physical disabilities, but he and other members believe that using this name for a capable organization in the community is fitting. Niusha, a group member, believes our society needs more unity and joy, while Lili promises more significant group efforts with government financial support.
Zohreh Ansari, who proposed the idea of Kimia, says they have various programs in the North Shore area, from literary and artistic meetings to one-day tours. Like many other groups, Kimia struggles to find space for events. Maryam believes that they can have a community center specifically for Iranians with mutual support.
Members of this organization believe that having an organization like Kimia in a civil society contributes to the community's health and happiness.
