MP John Williamson Says Constituents Are Concerned About the Rising Cost of Living

In a recent interview with MP John Williamson of New Brunswick Southwest on CHCO-TV's Southwest Magazine, a range of pressing issues were discussed, offering insights into the current challenges facing the region. The dialogue touched upon topics such as affordability, homelessness, mental health, government accountability, and infrastructure resilience in the face of natural disasters.

MP Williamson highlighted the growing concerns around affordability and homelessness in rural New Brunswick, emphasizing the need for immediate action to address these pressing issues. He noted, "I'm finding more people are coming in to talk about just the cost of living, making ends meet and folks who you wouldn't expect in some cases." 

Regarding the federal government's role in addressing these issues, MP Williamson expressed skepticism about the current administration's approaches, stating, "We lay the blame at the feet of the prime minister. Canada wasn't like this before Justin Trudeau." 

One of the key initiatives discussed during the interview was the implementation of the 988 mental health support line. MP Williamson commended this effort, highlighting the importance of providing accessible resources for individuals in need of mental health assistance. He stated, "It gives people that are maybe looking for just to reach out and find some help, an easy to access option." This recognition of the significance of mental health support services underscores the ongoing efforts to prioritize mental well-being in the community.

The conversation also delved into the review of the ArriveCAN app, shedding light on potential discrepancies in the app's development costs. Williamson touched upon the forthcoming audit report, noting, "The auditor is going to have this big report coming out." This scrutiny of government expenditures reflects a commitment to transparency and accountability in ensuring efficient use of taxpayer funds.

MP Williamson provided insights into the ongoing review of the Winnipeg lab and its implications for national security. He emphasized the need for comprehensive investigations into any lapses in security protocols, stating, "We need to reveal as much as we possibly can to Canadians." 

Williamson said he would discuss his work on committees addressing both the Winnipeg lab and ArriveCAN scandals on his next visit to the CHCO studio.
