New Flashing Light Installed at the End of Highway 5 Will Reduce Accidents

Since the completion of phase 2 of Highway 5 near Wakefield, Quebec there has been many accidents occurring at the intersection of Hwy 5 and Ch. Maclaren.  Constable Robitaille took notice that too many unnecessary accidents were occurring to started his research.  Since 2017 to 2020 Constable Robitaille discovered at least 31 accidents occurred here at this intersection.  Fall of 2020, a fuel tanker truck went thru the intersection, rolled and spilled over 20000 liters of fuel.  Many months of clean up was necessary to clean up the spill site.

Phase 2 of HWY 5 was completed in 2014.  This double lane highway ends down a hill to only a stop sign.  Prior to the stop sign there are warning signs leading to the intersection.  However, with the number of accidents here it proves that the current signage was not enough.  After investigation and consulting with the Ministry of Transportation of Quebec, there is now a plan to have a flashing light at this intersection.  This flashing light will give a much greater visual to the intersection where highway 5 ends. 

Hwy 5 still has phase 3 to be complete.  Ministry of Transportation of Quebec are currently planning and working on this phase. 

Constable Robitaille is very pleased with the prompt solution the ministry has given.  There will be added temporary signage until the proper flashing light is put in place.  The residents of La Peche will now have hope of a safer intersection when travelling to and from highway 5.
