Nova Scotia reinstates travel restrictions with New Brunswick but only for those who aren't fully vaccinated

With COVID-19 cases on the rise here in our province, Nova Scotia is restoring travel restrictions with New Brunswick, but this time border measures won't affect everyone. Premier designate Tim Houston made announced at his first COVID-19 press conference on Monday that unvaccinated New Brunswickers who travel into Nova Scotia will have to quarantine for 14 days upon entry and will also be subject to COVID-19 testing. Travellers who've had one dose of a vaccine will also have to self-isolate but for just one week and will also need to undergo testing. 

Almost 90% of the new cases in New Brunswick since July 1st are in not fully vaccinated individuals. And, since some of these new cases have directly affected Nova Scotia, Chief Medical Officer of Health for Nova Scotia Dr. Robert Strang believes reinstituting border measures for unvaccinated travellers coming from New Brunswick is a necessary step.

The vaccine status of a person is expected to have an even larger impact on where people can go even within their own province later this fall. New Brunswick is currently developing an app to help residents confirm their vaccination status using their smartphones. More information is expected to follow in the weeks ahead. Minister of Education Dominic Cardy also announced on Tuesday that New Brunswick is expanding vaccine eligibility to include 11 year-olds who will turn 12 in 2021 as part of an added layer of protection as schools resume this fall. 

Project:Village is a new initiative taking place in Blacks Harbour to address the housing crisis, food security, and transportation needs in rural Southwestern New Brunswick. The ambitious project includes a number of initiatives guided by four foundational pillars: community, governance, environment, and economy. Among the initiatives is a phased plan for affordable housing and community spaces on 7.5 acres of land in Blacks Harbour. Phase one will begin in 2022 with 24 units of accessible housing. Other initiatives include implementing a car-share transportation system in southwestern New Brunswick and investing in the growth of local food systems.

St. Andrews by-the-Sea is winning accolades around the world and close to home for being a top tourism destination. Last week, world-renowned travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller named St. Andrews one of Canada's Top 15 Charming Towns to Visit and earlier this summer Score Magazine named the Algonquin Golf Course one of the top 25 golf courses in Canada. Tourism New Brunswick recently paid a visit to St. Andrews with one of its mobile tourism bureau's to help promote the area, setting up shop for the day near the first tee of the Algonquin Golf Course.
