Physician Recruitment Navigator Excited for 2021 Prospects
PORT HOOD - Four months into her work as Health Care Recruitment Navigator for the Cape Breton South: Recruiting For Health committee, Maggie MacDonald is hopeful that recent developments in rural physician recruitment will bode well for the next 12 months.
Speaking to TELILE 24/7 host Adam Cooke from her home office in Port Hood, MacDonald confirmed that two locum doctors from Ontario have been covering several shifts in local health care facilities in recent weeks. These include St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish, the Strait-Richmond Hospital in Evanston, Port Hawkesbury's new Collaborative Care Centre, and the Dr. Kingston Memorial Health Care Centre in L'Ardoise.
MacDonald confirmed that both locum doctors are currently examining the possibility of relocating to Nova Scotia and have already spent recent weeks looking carefully at properties in Port Hawkesbury and the surrounding communities. However, she added that she and her committee are continuing to negotiate with doctors and nurses around the world to ensure that pending health care vacancies in the Strait area will be filled in the months and years to come.
