Preview of Upcoming New Westminster Heritage Home Tour Showcasing Three Beautifully Restored Homes

The 42nd New Westminster Heritage Home Tour to be held on Sunday, May 26th is a beloved annual tradition that offers a rare glimpse into the rich history and timeless beauty of some of the city's most notable heritage homes. This year, the tour promises to be better than ever, with a carefully curated selection of homes and one apartment building that showcase the unique architectural styles and historical significance of New Westminster.

As the oldest city in British Columbia, it has many older homes, some of which date back to the late 1800s. Heritage New West, (aka New Westminster Heritage Preservation Society), which has put on this annual tour since 1980, has as its mandate the conservation of heritage stock. The beginnings of the society was prompted by concern over development.

"Keeping old houses - this is a very important part of New Westminster. This city has such a wonderful back story and it makes for a really important social vision....We really feel that a visible past inspires a thoughtful future," explains Catherine Hutson, Director of the society.

The mission of Heritage New West is to show how the city's built environment of yesteryear contributes to "the city's economy, sustainability, culture and aesthetic appeal", according to their website.

In this preview of the tour, NewWest TV journalist Deni Loubert will not only provide a glimpse of the exteriors and interiors of 3 homes but will also share stories and anecdotes about their past and the families who once inhabited them. On hand are the current owners of the homes. They will share their renovation adventures and what made them fall in love with these homes. From Victorian-era apartments to charming craftsman bungalows, the tour will offer something for everyone.

Go to Eventbrite to get your ticket for the 2024 New West Heritage Homes Tour. Tickets are $45. After May 20th, you can pick up your ticket guidebook at Royal City Colours , 700 Twelfth St, New Westminster. Bring your ticket receipt.
