Red River College Provides a Way for Newcomers to Learn English Language Skills
Newcomers hear a lot about Canada before they even arrive. Some of its true, and some information requires more clarification. A newcomer might think although the English language is important, there are often translators who will help you understand. Another is that the communities are so large in Canada that you may not even need to learn English to communicate with others, even in the workplace.
Unfortunately, this information isn't accurate and does not reflect the reality of Canadian society because mastering the English language is the way to a bright future in Canada.
Angela Chotka, Director, English Language Learning and Newcomer Pathway Initiatives School of Education, Arts and Sciences, RRC Polytech, Winnipeg. Chotka speaks about the history of the college, its programs, and how to join. Chotka shares that the college supports newcomers in mastering English through specialized instructors and preparing an appropriate learning environment for newcomers to overcome language challenges. Helping newcomers to integrate into society and leading them to job stability quickly.
Zuher Almusre also spoke with Anna Janik-Kelly, Program Manager, Strategic Analysis and Special Initiatives Language Training Centre, Winnipeg. Janik-Kelly talks about the college's role in preparing programs in stages commensurate with students' abilities and English language levels. Janik-Kelly also talked about distance education during the Corona pandemic and how education has moved from classrooms to homes. She added that the college would open its doors to students in its new building next winter.
