RPTV WEEKLY NEWS (EP97) SDP Introduces Listening Sessions; City clears encampment in Allan Gardens.
The City of Toronto is launching Listening Sessions as part of the refresh of the Social Development Plan (SDP). These sessions aim to create a friendly and inclusive space for residents, grassroots organizations, and community leaders to share their thoughts and ideas.
Fred Alvarado – Local Journalism Initiative
Starting on November 4, these sessions will focus on gathering input from various groups, including SDP members, TCHC tenants, and youth. By coming together, residents can discuss what matters most and explore ways to enhance social cohesion and support within the neighbuorhood.
In 2023, the City of Toronto began a refresh process of the SDP after ongoing tensions hindered its progress. To tackle these challenges, Human Future Studio (HFS), an independent consulting group, was brought on board to provide recommendations for improvement. On July 16, 2024, HFS presented its findings emphasizing the need for better communication, trauma-informed practices, and effective conflict resolution strategies. Now, the City of Toronto is moving forward with these recommendations by launching the Regent Park Listening Sessions this fall.
The sessions underscore a vital lesson: every voice matter. By participating, residents can help ensure that Regent Park’s needs and aspirations are recognized and addressed, fostering an inclusive community.
