The recently re-elected Progressive Conservative MLA for Richmond, Trevor Boudreau, spoke with Civic Journalist Jake Boudrot following his decisive victory in the provincial election.

Boudreau secured more than 71 percent of the vote, winning by over 2,200 votes and losing only one poll in the riding. Reflecting on the results, he expressed gratitude and humility.

“I was very humbled by the results, obviously, but I would like to congratulate the other candidates, Rochelle (Heudes) and Marc (Currie), but especially Rochelle,” Boudreau said. “We’re very fortunate to have people who want to put their name forward. It’s not easy.”

Across Nova Scotia, the Progressive Conservatives made history by winning 43 seats, leaving the NDP with nine seats as the official opposition and reducing the Liberals to just two seats.

Boudreau acknowledged the significance of being part of such a commanding majority. “Certainly, what that tells me is that the residents of Nova Scotia have really resonated with our messaging, with what we’re doing, and knowing that we’re trying,” he said. “We’ve been an active government. We’ve been very involved with trying to make changes to health care but with other initiatives as well.”

Asked whether Richmond might be overlooked in such a large government caucus, Boudreau remained optimistic about continued attention to the riding's needs.

He also reflected on whether the election results signified approval of his performance as MLA and Premier Tim Houston’s leadership or represented a broader rejection of the Liberal brand and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s federal government.

With voter turnout at 45 percent across Nova Scotia and a 10 percent decline in Richmond’s voting participation, Boudreau acknowledged the lower engagement while emphasizing the importance of connecting with residents.

Looking ahead, Boudreau discussed his organizational plans for the new term. Having spent months meeting constituents during the campaign, he reiterated his commitment to addressing key issues in the riding.

He highlighted priorities such as improving cellular phone service in parts of Richmond County and advancing the development of the new St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Centre facility in Arichat.

Boudreau’s focus on these pressing concerns signals a proactive approach as he embarks on his next term in office, aiming to build on the progress made while addressing the challenges still facing the community.
