Today on Face to Face, Genevieve Kyle-Lefebvre sits down with Isabel Silvestre, President of the Burke Mountain Residents Association – NECRA, to discuss the organization’s role in strengthening community ties.

The Burke Mountain Residents Association – NECRA was created with a clear purpose: to give residents a voice, create a sense of belonging, and advocate for the needs of this growing neighborhood. As one of Coquitlam’s rapidly expanding communities, Burke Mountain faces unique challenges, from infrastructure development to maintaining green spaces, and the association plays a crucial role in ensuring that residents’ concerns are heard. Isabel Silvestre, a passionate advocate for the community, has been actively involved in the association, working alongside fellow residents to build a stronger, more connected neighborhood. “We listen to residents, identify their concerns, and work to bridge the gap between problems and solutions,” she explains.

Through advocacy, collaboration, and community initiatives, the association ensures that local voices shape the neighborhood’s future. One of the biggest challenges, Isabel notes, is balancing growth with sustainability. As new developments rise, ensuring that essential services, schools, and public spaces keep pace is vital. “We are following what the City of Coquitlam is doing with building our community center,” she says, emphasizing the importance of having spaces where residents can gather, connect, and access services.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Burke Mountain Residents Association – NECRA remains committed to advocating for residents while proactively identifying potential challenges and opportunities for improvement. By staying engaged with the community’s evolving needs, they strive to create a better, more sustainable future for all. Their mission is not only to address current concerns but also to anticipate future issues and advocate for long-term solutions that will benefit residents for years to come.

As the neighborhood continues to grow, the association welcomes new voices and encourages residents to get involved—whether by attending meetings, volunteering, or simply staying informed. “The strength of any community lies in the people who call it home,” Isabel reflects. Through ongoing efforts, the Burke Mountain Residents Association – NECRA continues to champion the needs of its residents, ensuring a thriving future for this dynamic neighborhood.
