"In Your Ward": Ward 6, Councilor Christian Simard

In this week's latest installment of TVC22 new show "In Your Ward/Dans Ton Quartier", presenter Thomas Stockting meets up with Cité de / City of Clarence-Rockland's Christian Simard councillor/conseiller Ward/Quartier 6

Councilor Simard and Thomas have a light-hearted chat in St. Pascal, looking at Christian's community involvement, professional and personal life and how this influences his ability to represent his community.

St. Pascal, the Councilor's home, also falls within his Ward and he isn't the first person in his household to represent the local community as Mr. Simard's wife was Councilor before him.

Christian and Thomas discuss the home dynamic, their differing styles and whether they will be running against each other in the future.

On a professional front, Christian is part of his family run and operated construction company who have seen business bloom over the course of the last twelve months, a stark contrast to most people's businesses in the midst of the global pandemic.

In the second half of this episode, the councilor and Thomas venture down the road to examine the state of Chemin Du Lac, which will soon be receiving a hefty local investment.

They discuss the importance of contributing so much of the tax payers money into maintaining roads, the reason it's going to cost over $1m to fix Chemin Du Lac and the Municipal '10 Year Plan'.

Councilor Simard's extensive experience in construction gives him an insight into the cost of labor and the cost of materials, ensuring that the council aren't overpaying for a job that can be done more cost effectively.

Though roads may not be the 'sexiest' project to undertake, Councilor Simard explains that they are obviously one of the most important - and is the one the Council receives the most complaints about.
