Celebrating Christmas Wiikwemkoong Style with Crystal Shawanda and A Special Announcement!
W.U.T. Ogimaa Duke Peltier, Wikwemikong Nursing Home administrator Cheryl Osawabine-Peltier, former Ogimaa and campaign co-chair Walter Manitowabi, and Master of Ceremonies Kerry Assiniwe give a presentation, announcing the formal beginning of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home Campaign.
The Wikwemkong Nursing Home, which serves the entirety of Manitoulin island, is in the process of upgrading the facility to a bigger space. However, during the recent release of federal funding from the Ministry of Long Term Care, Wikwemikong Nursing Home was shocked to find out they were denied the much needed federal funding to do this, and to keep the nursing home open. The facility is in great need to upgrade to meet the new 2025 compliance standards, and without this upgrade, the nursing home will be force to close its doors, leaving the future of Wikwemikong's elders uncertain.
This formal announcement of the Nursing Home Campaign, with a performance by Crystal Shawanda, was announced on December 21, 2020, with the goal of reaching the required $15 million to build a new facility.
