Fitness centre upgrades for Schreiber
The fitness centre in the Schreiber Recreation complex has just undergone a massive transformation.
Known as “the Gym” to the local residents, the fitness centre had been closed to the public along with other municipal buildings since the covid outbreak was declared. During the last 18 months it had a limited run for a few weeks as rules and regulations as to what was allowed to open or not were being constantly updated. It was decided that this down time would be a perfect opportunity to attend to some much needed upgrades.
Once council had approved the motion to go ahead with the renovations, Economic Development Officer Dominique Charboneau was tasked with the job of sourcing funding. The space itself had become very crowded and outdated over the years so a local contractor was brought in to quote on the job.
Luckily the existing space was attached to another hardly used room that was perfect for accomplishing the task. The gym would nearly double in size to accommodate the new equipment that had to be ordered. Nathan Dias, COA of the Township of Schreiber, explained the costs involved and why it was necessary to procure funding for this project.
The ICIP (Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program) allows for Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure to be upgraded as part of its infrastructure stream. Brand new equipment alone would total sixty thousand dollars and the final cost of the project as it stands came in just over $80,000.Some additional equipment will be arriving in a few months and it is thought that this updated fitness centre would lay the the foundation for further improvements to the Schreiber Recreation Complex.
Memberships to the new facility can be purchased at the Municipal office.
