Last meeting of Schreiber council for September
The second meeting of the Schreiber Council in September 2021 included a few new items, most notably the announcement of a meeting with EMS and the townships of Schreiber and Terrace Bay.
- A motion to accept the minutes of previous meetings was approved.
- The 2 downtown benches are being replaced as part of the beautification committee recommendations.
- Surplus Fire Department equipment is being sold off or donated in some cases.
- Other surplus assists of the township include tables and gas cans and will be offered to the public for sale.
- A motion to support Chatham-Kent in their resolution to provide affordable internet to citizens.
- Under unfinished business, the heritage day festival dates were approved for summer of 2022.
- Council authorized the write off of property taxes for the just recently auctioned commercial property on Winnipeg street.
- The economic development manager position was renewed.
- Bylaw to appoint lottery licensing officers approved.
Committee of the whole:
- Treasurers report to highlight snow removal costs for seniors.
- Recommendation to increase economic development advertising budget approved.
- Seniors programme report highlighted the successes of the gardening programme, an increase in Facebook traffic and some on site programmes opening with vaccination certificate proof.
- Beautification committee plans a Light up the Night event again this year at the cemetery. The Christmas tree lights will be coordinated with the top hill tree light up.
- Community economic committee is focusing on the downtown revitalization project. Splash ground equipment is arriving in October for next summer. Community murals have been installed around town. A broadband internet study is underway for the community. A new improved information brochure is being designed for next year.
- Waste water operations report and water treatment summaries were presented.
- Director of operations report requested sand and salt materials and equipment for this years snow removal work. All water mains will be flushed before the freezing sets in as per budget.
Communications had very few items.
The township Christmas social for staff was discussed and it was decided to not go forward with the event and use the money for that event to further fund the heritage day festival next summer.
Superior North EMS has requested a meeting between Schreiber and Terrace Bay to provide an update on the ambulance services issue. Business from that update will be discussed at the next council meeting in October.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation flag raising event will occur the day before the Actual day with people from Pays Plat in attendance.

Schreiber Community Media is a non profit organization established with the aim of providing media production services and training for the residents of Schreiber and surrounding areas. Schreiber is located on the north shore of Lake Superior approximately two hours east of Thunder Bay.
The Schreiber Media Centre is locating in the Schreiber Public Library and includes tools for recording, live streaming and post production of audio and video.
