Youth Attempts Run from Ashcroft to Lytton, British Columbia

One year after a tragic wildfire that burnt the town of Lytton BC down, community members are finding ways to raise awareness, cope, heal and move forward from the disaster. One of these community members is 17 year Troy Aleck Jr. Troy has been pushing himself to run further and further distances, on June 30th 2022 he attempted to run from Ashcroft to Lytton.

Troy first got into running because it was something his uncle was good at. Now he trains and runs with his uncle’s best friend Tim Sam. Tim is always trying to work with and encourage the youth. With his friend and coach Tim Sam, they are setting high goals. Physical fitness can provide a lot of opportunities in life and he feels it was important to help our youth find the confidence and resources they need to be successful in their futures.

This wasn’t Troy’s first run but it was his most ambitious. Besides trying to raise money for a new basketball court he’s made a few other runs to raise awareness, all the ingredients are there for this to become something bigger for him.

Lytton has a rich tradition of raising First Nations firefighters. Having already seen some of the worst things a wildfire can do there is no doubt that the generation of firefighters, lead by people like Troy Aleck Jr,  will continue be an asset to their community and province.

You can still help to support Troy Alec and his by contacting his family via Facebook.
