Oseredok unites Canadian Ukrainians 

The Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre (Oseredok) is one of North America’s largest and most unique Ukrainian cultural and non-profit heritage resource centres with a museum, art gallery, library, archives, cultural programming and a boutique.

This "Community Hour" episode features Anna Shypilova, reading room coordinator, “Oseredok”. 

Now they are actively working on programs for Ukrainians and various workshops to help Ukrainians easily adapt to Canada. For example, English language courses, Ukrainian language courses and workshops how to settle in Winnipeg, how to find housing and so on. More about it Anna talks in the episode. 

We also touched on the topic of immigration and preservation Ukrainian culture. The first wave of Ukrainian immigration to Canada began in 1891 since that day ukrainians have been trying to preserve their culture. Even 200 years later Ukrainian culture is still alive in Canada. But there is a big difference between Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian culture. 

Anna talks about the differences of these two cultures and how to reduce the difference between them.

Anna explaines the challenges Ukrainians face in Canada and how to overcome it. Her advice to newcomers is to be open-minded, if people gonna still live with Ukrainian mindset here they are not gonna be successful, just because they have to explore details of Canadian culture just to be able to adapt to environment they are living right now. She emphasised that it is important to be opened to new changes.
