News and Views (Episode 5) Wellness Clinics and Mental Health Funding

News and Views is a radio show produced by Focus Media Arts Centre and hosted by Jesse Mcrae and Ryan Field. The show takes place every Thursday and is broadcast on Radio Regent, a 24-hour Internet radio station.
Here are the news stories featured in today's episode. Regent Park Community Health Centre https://regentparkchc.org/covid-19-vaccine-clinic/ is running a wellness hub and cold and flu clinic. The clinic takes place on Wednesdays at 40 Oak Street, from 3:00pm - 6:00pm, and Saturdays, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and on Thursdays, at the Regent Park Community Health Centre, located at 465 Dundas Street East, from 1:00pm - 6:00pm. The clinic is open for walk-ins and appointments and for catch up flu or covid vaccines.

The federal liberals are investing 1.5 million dollars to support the mental health of black communities. The money is going to two mental health organizations. The first being Black Mental Health Canada https://blackmentalhealth.ca/, and the second organization, Wanasah https://wanasah.ca/, which is mental health services for black youth and is located in Regent Park.
In other news, Police Officer Rick Shank was promoted to Superintendent and is now head of the Toronto police’s professional standards unit. Superintendent Shank was cleared of charges after killing two black men and accused of beating a third nearly three decades ago. The Toronto Police Service (TPS) Board approved the promotion of this officer which to many is mystifying. Regent Park Neighborhood Association (RPNA) member Waleed Khogali Ali said he was concerned Shanks assignment didn’t reflect the sensitivity to systematic racism in the TPS that former chief James Ramer showed in an apology last year.
News & Views interviewed RPTV reporter Dylan Woolacoot who took part in Young Street Missions annual Coldest Night of the Year Walk https://www.ysm.ca/cnoy/. The walk has raised 12 million dollars nation-wide for people experiencing poverty. There is cool swag for those who donate, and Dylan came in rocking a very nice Coldest Night winter toque which he got for his involvement https://cnoy.org/home.
