Mayor Nick Daigneault of Beauval Village in North Saskatchewan Provides A Community and Regional Update

Mayor Nick Daigneault  A Community and Regional Update

This program features a conversation with the Mayor Nick Daigneault of the Northern Village of Beauval about municipal services, and the latest economic development plans.

The Mayor speaks to the changes to the Canada Post office and renovations on the former CIPI office/ health clinic to accommodate a partnership with a cannabis dispensary at the commercial district located at the Beauval Forks. He also shares the challenges of funding infrastructure needs such as the Arena/Curling rink replacements and water treatment plant upgrades.

The unique regional health needs for improved services was identified, but the experience of the health clinic construction plans and lack of priority for it by the Provincial government and Saskatchewan Health Authority, gives the Mayor concern. Also of concern for him are the recognition of all governments in the region such as the First Nations, Metis and Municipal jurisdictions. The emergency ambulance services and emergency response preparedness are immediate concerns.

The economic development plans of the Canoe River Golf Course and the Wild Rice harvesters, which need a processing plant, he says are possible with partnerships amongst communities. He spoke to the potential for working together on training, education. Economic and community needs must involve regional partnerships with federal, indigenous and provincial governments, according to the Mayor.

He also spoke about the changes caused by climate change on fire and flood response preparedness. The community resources required to fight fires and to help in evacuation management are limited for a northern village, according to the Mayor. Community safety and addictions have also emerged as a regional priority, he says.

The conversation closed with the reminder that all municipal governments will be having elections in the fall of 2024.
