President of MNO Youth Council Launches grassroots Campaign for Region 7 Councillor
Jordyn Playne’s campaign slogan is ‘new leadership for a new era’. Jordyn, or Jordi, as she is known in the community, is the only candidate for Region 7 Councillor to serve on the PCMNO. She currently holds the position of Youth Representative on the Provincial Council of the Metis Nation of Ontario, and is the president of the Metis Nation of Ontario’s Youth Council, positions she’s held for four years. Now, Jordi is ready to transition from those youth positions to Region 7 Councillor. “PCMNO shouldn't be a place people go when they're retired, because they decided they wanted to give back to their communities. It’s a space for people who want to advocate," says Playne.
First on Jordyn’s list is the contentious boundary issue that has seen many Barrie and Collingwood citizens shifted to new councils that are a distance away from them, hindering their access to services. If elected Jordi plans to hold multiple community engagement sessions with citizens so she can bring the issues that are important to them to the table. As a social worker, Jordi’s campaign is about putting Metis citizens first. “I bring humanity into everything I do. And I think a lot of times in politics or leadership positions, we forget that we're doing the work for the people.”
Jordyn Playne will be at the All Candidates Meeting on April 13 in Alcona to answer questions from voters. The meeting takes place from 2pm to 4pm at the Lions Club.
