Neepawa Council Debrief: Never Too Early to Talk Camping

Neepawa Town Council Kicks Off the New Year with Key Updates

While the holiday season brought a quieter period for many, Neepawa Town Council remained active, covering annual renewals, upcoming meetings, and preparations for the year ahead.

Council Reports
Councillor Nadeau managed to fit in two meetings over the holidays, one for Westlake Employment and another for the Rossburn Subdivision Trail Association. The latter focused on finalizing a new memorandum of understanding to clarify member municipalities’ responsibilities and exploring new initiatives such as a storybook trail.

Several Annual General Meetings (AGMs) were announced:

  • Westlake Employment: January 15, 5:30 PM
  • Rossburn Subdivision Trail Association: Early March (earlier than usual)
  • Neepawa and District Chamber of Commerce and Neepawa Tourism: January 27, 6:30 PM

Councillor Sisley highlighted the Silver Club Initiative, which plans seniors’ outings and social activities. NACTV will cover these efforts in a future program. Additionally, a new nutrition and food security initiative, funded by the regional health authority’s Healthy Together Now grant, is underway.

Snow Clearing and Operations
Manager of Operations Denis Saquet reported that snow clearing remained a priority over the holiday break. Efforts to remove extended-stay and derelict vehicles from streets were largely successful, though a few remaining vehicles may require towing to complete the task.

Saquet also noted progress on the town’s budget, with plans to meet finance officials soon to finalize details. He hopes to issue early tenders to secure contractors, addressing a recent challenge of contractor overbooking and delays that impacted town projects and road repairs.

Other Business
The council concluded the meeting by approving the 2025 tax sale date for October 28 and appointing weed inspectors for the year.

CAO Synchyshyn presented a proposal to revert to dedicated management for campground services rather than relying on students. The council approved a bid for a manager role running from May 1 to September 7, ensuring 24/7 coverage and relieving the administration of some booking and administrative responsibilities.

The next public Neepawa Town Council meeting is scheduled for January 21.
