New Wellness Centre set to open next week in Saint Andrews

Video Upload Date: December 18, 2020

Doug Naish, the Mayor of Saint Andrews, says the town's new Wellness Centre is set to open as early as next week.

"Dr. Peer is moving in this week and will likely be seeing patients in the new facility as early as next week," said Naish. "We will also be welcoming a new doctor to the facility and to the town in the new year. This will be a particularly welcome addition to the town for all those residents who have to travel outside of Saint Andrews for a doctor. The Wellness Centre will have physiotherapists on site, as well as a fitness centre. We are still in the process of finding someone to run the fitness centre, but COVID-19 has made that more of a challenging process."

Naish said the town is also in the process of planning a public consultation session to hear feedback from residents regarding upgrades that need to be made to the wharf. Climate change will play a major factor in what plans will be sustainable long-term as far as wharf upgrades go, but how the wharf will be redesigned and built to accommodate these timely needs is still open to debate and consultation.

"Certain upgrades will be required to ensure the new wharf lasts 50 years and not just 15," said Naish. "We plan to meet with the public in January to hear their feedback and ideas, but we know significant changes will be required in order to make the wharf and the market square area sustainable in the long-term."
