Blacks Harbour is celebrating an important milestone this year as the community also gears up for major changes ahead. Incorporated in 1972, the Village of Blacks Harbour is officially marking 50 years as a community in 2022. The year will also mark the village's last year as an incorporated municipality. In November 2022, Blacks Harbour will be part of one of the most dramatic amalgamations taking place under New Brunswick's 2022 municipal reform plan, meaning residents of the village will have to go back to the polls to elect and entirely new council for a newly created community despite electing their current council and mayor in May of 2021.

Celebrating 50 years as a community is bittersweet due to impending amalgamation but also all the more important for residents of the village who want to end the Blacks Harbour's half-century on a high note. "We are reflecting this year on our village's long and rich history as we prepare for a new chapter ahead," said Mayor John Craig.

This year's edition of the late summer festival Fog Fest will be one of the biggest versions of the festival yet, taking place from Friday, September 2 to Monday, September 5th. Some of the highlights of this year's Fog Fest will include a Soapbox Derby, a horse pull, a concert in the park, a kitchen party, a kids carnival, a parade and a fireworks display.

"We hope everyone comes out to have a good time and to celebrate our community," said Deputy Mayor Adam Hatt.
