ST. STEPHEN – Twenty-five southern New Brunswickers were awarded Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medals at a ceremony at the Garcelon Civic Centre in St. Stephen on September 24, 2022.
Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, the Honourable Brenda Murphy, attended the event and handed out medals alongside host Kathy Bockus, who is the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Saint Croix, and John Williamson who is the Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest.
The recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medals were nominated by Bockus and Williamson, 20 chosen by Bockus and five chosen by Williamson. CHCO Television's station manager Patrick Watt and Local Journalism Initiative reporter and CHCO news director Vicki Hogarth each received a Queen's Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal in recognition of their outstanding COVID-19 coverage for New Brunswick during the pandemic as well as for their dedication to providing local content to the underserved area of Southwest New Brunswick.
"We couldn't have gotten through the pandemic without CHCO Television and Vicki and Patrick's work," said Bockus.
The full list of recipients includes: Dr. John Richardson, Bradley Small, Paul (Trapper) Cane, Master Warrant Officer (Retired) Earle (Grizzly) Eastman, Donna Richards, Darren McCabe, Richard Fulton, Elva Hatt, Jim Stuart, Les Thomson, John Matheson, Capt. Kelly Williamson, Vicki Hogarth, Patrick Watt, Sue Lister, Cindy Bartlett, Frank Carroll, Taylor Gallant, Jody Robinson, Roger McNabb, and Joseph Omer Daniel “Turk” Brunet, Dot Larsen, Jerome Connick and Donna Linton.
The Southwest New Brunswick ceremony was the first of a series planned across the province to honour the most outstanding citizens of New Brunswick for 2023. Each MLA, in collaboration with MPs, hosts their own ceremony for the Platinum Jubilee medals.
