The Record Episode 1

Video Upload Date: May 13, 2024

The first episode of "The Record" looks at some of the issues discussed during the April 22 regular monthly meeting of Richmond Municipal Council in Arichat.

First, the council heard from John MacNeil, with the municipality's auditor Grant Thornton who reported to the council that the municipality's finances are similar to years past, specifically as far as revenues, expenditures, and the overall financial picture are concerned.

Council then received some bad news from the Minister of Public Works, Kim Masland, that their application to have the Lobster Plant Road in Cap Auguet leading to the Clearwater lobster holding facility, paved this year under a cost-sharing program between the municipality and the provincial government. The municipality also had other J Class roads like Forgeron Road in West Arichat and two roads in the L'Ardoise area on that list for paving.

Councillors talked about the difficulty in getting Nova Scotia Power to act on requests for new streetlights and decided to wait to write a letter to the province's power utility about this issue.

After the meeting, Telile spoke with Richmond Warden Amanda Mombourquette about the recent hiring of an interim Chief Financial Officer, Jim Davis, to fill in for the current CFO who is on a temporary leave as the budget process is underway. An issue which arose regarding the St. Peter's and District Volunteer Fire Department over the rejection of a grant application will be discussed in subsequent meetings and will be aired in the following episodes of "The Record" in May.
