Neepawa residents enjoyed the Great North American Eclipse this week, which crossed Manitoba at 58% totality. While not the total eclipse that residents of eastern Canada enjoyed, residents were still enthused to get out and join in the fun. The town held a solar eclipse watch party down at the Flats and sold eclipse glasses at a minimal cost with proceeds going towards the upcoming Canada Day festivities. All 125 pairs of glasses sold out within four minutes, but attendees proved willing to share and everyone who attended did get a good look at the spectacle in the end. The next time Manitoba will be in the path of a solar eclipse is in 2044.

The Rotary Club of Neepawa held their annual book sale, which this year was set up for an entire week thanks to a free venue donated by one of the Rotary members. The first sale was held in 2018 and the event has grown every year, with nearly 10 thousand books available when the doors opened on Monday. Proceeds from the sale go to support projects in the community and globally, and the club is always looking for local projects they can contribute to as well as encouraging local residents to consider membership.

Speaking of community service, this week also boasted the Neepawa Community Expo, held on April 9th at the Legion Hall, which showcased 27 different area organizations, from healthcare to sports. The expo was designed to match residents with opportunities to participate in or volunteer for community activities. Volunteerism was a particular focus of the event, with many local organizations struggling to find enough volunteers to keep operating. Local service clubs including the Kin Club also attended to offer residents different ways to contribute to their community. This year's recipient of the local Tim Horton's Smile Cookie funds, Neepawa Community Ministries, was also on hand to promote the fundraiser and draw attention to the need for more family services in the area.
