This meeting, hosted by Senior City Planner Katherine Bailey, offers residents a critical opportunity to engage with the future development of their neighbourhood.

City Council has proposed amendments to Zoning By-law 1325-2023, aiming to address conflicts with essential City infrastructure while expanding housing options. The changes focus on Blocks 4B/4C and 5C/5D, ensuring necessary setbacks from existing sewer lines on Sackville and Sumach Streets. These adjustments are expected to redistribute building areas within each block to provide more housing flexibility.
However, the proposed plan raises concerns within the community. Of the 2,804 new units planned, only 633 will be Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) units, leaving the majority as market-rate or near-market housing—potentially unaffordable for many local residents. The community has expressed concerns, fearing the new development will deepen the housing affordability crisis in the area.
This meeting provides a chance for residents to have a voice and influence decisions affecting Regent Park’s future. It’s essential for the community to participate in these discussions, ensuring that the redevelopment prioritizes affordability and inclusivity.
