Innisfil Year-End Update: Town Tackles Rising Auto Theft, Domestic Violence, and Budget Challenges

During the year-end meetings at Innisfil Town Hall, discussions focused on policing and budget-related matters. The South Simcoe Police Service provided updates for the towns of Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury. Compared to 2023, there was a significant increase in stolen vehicle reports, a trend the provincial auto theft team is actively addressing. Additionally, there was a notable rise in domestic violence calls, attributed to potential societal stressors, financial difficulties, mental health challenges, and a greater willingness to report intimate partner violence.

The board also noted that December is typically a stressful month for families, which may contribute to an increase in domestic calls. Conversely, there was a slight decrease in missing person reports.

Speaking to Simcoe Community Media, Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin emphasized the value of the town's two-year budgeting system in managing large-scale projects effectively while addressing community needs amid rising costs from inflation, collective bargaining, and increased construction expenses. She highlighted accomplishments such as foundational planning for growth, stormwater management, and transit improvements, while reaffirming community engagement as a top priority for 2025. The mayor underscored the importance of continuous improvement and expressed gratitude to Innisfil residents for their contributions to making the community thrive.
