Schreiber council meeting highlights changes needed to terms of use for recreation facilities

Schreiber council held a its second meeting of the newly appointed council.

First item up was a motion to approve tax write offs on a property in Schreiber. A resolution to continue with the Superior North Advertising programme was carried. A quote from Breeze Bakery for catering services for the upcoming Christmas event was approved.

Under Other Business:

  1. The first item on the Agenda was the Operation Directors status report. Councillor McGrath asked for clarity on a matter regarding additional repairs to the Splash pad roadway. The OCWA report was also featured and highlighted the need for further upgrades to the electrical system in the future. The municipal complex report featured a request for information on the propane upgrades to the complex. It is possible the building will have to be evacuated for the duration of the repairs due to extreme weather conditions.
  2. The concession booth at the arena is still not operating as no one has come forward to operate the stand at the moment. The Skating club is interested in using it for their events but it is preferred to operate it during the entire season for all events.
  3. A discussion about the high school request for use of the recreation hall for a school dance followed. There seems to be no hard rule regarding schools use of the facility and Mayor Mullins suggested some form of payment to cover costs for the use of the hall. The policy will be re evaluated going forward.
  4. The Senior Centre report made mention of the need for additional chairs for the centre and the associated costs which are to be covered by a grant. A quote from the Hungry Moose restaurant for the catering of the seniors year end event was also accepted.
  5. The Fire Chief report suggests that the older, used truck be sold and the revenue put back into fire department reserves. At the same time a newer vehicle will be purchased to replace the older unit.
  6. There was a discussion on the logistics of the upcoming ROMA meeting as far as who would attend and what issues would be brought up. Funding is badly needed to upgrade the waste water treatment plant and a delegation would like to meet up with the Ministry in charge of infrastructure.
