Terrace Bay Council Approves Sale of Land to MTO for Highway Rest Area. Feb, 21, 2023

There was a quick swap of items to the agenda before the meeting proceeded. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented.

The CAO report was first up and centred around access for disabilities issues, especially in regards to voting locations. The possibility of online voting is currently being considered for the next election in 2026.

The Ministry of Transportation has shown interest in developing a highway rest stop, including restrooms, parking and picnic area. John Hall presented some draft sketches for the project and a short discussion followed. An offer to purchase has been made to the township of Terrace Bay and was agreed upon and accepted.

Payroll and general disbursements were approved for the previous period.

The Superior Classics Car Club submitted their schedule for the test and tune event, which happens before the Drag Race event in August.

The Township of Shunia submitted a request of support to show their concern for a new provincial legislation that gives mayors more control in regards to housing. Most small communities have voiced disapproval of this proposal and maintain that there already are protocols in place that regulate housing and development.

All the bylaws associated with this meeting were approved and then there was Question Period. The submitted question pertained to the lots along the highway that are being sold to MTO and clarity on how much tax revenue would be generated from the development of the new rest stop.

The meeting then moved to 'in camera' to discuss further issues.
