Vibrant Display of Indian Culture and Community Unity at Innisfil Indian Association's Holi Event

Earlier this month, the Innisfil Indian Association organized a colourful Holi celebration.

The Town of Innisfil experienced a rich amalgamation of Indian culture, featuring diverse foods and traditional dances. People from all backgrounds participated in the event, showcasing the community's inclusive spirit.

Deputy Mayor of Innisfil, Kenneth Fowler, who actively participated in the Holi festivities, remarked that people from all backgrounds are welcomed in Innisfil. “I am here to welcome all Indians, Hindus to Innisfil, and show them that they are welcomed, and we embrace all the diversity and culture that we have,” he said. 

Fowler highlighted that Innisfil is experiencing significant growth and diversification, with increasing populations of Latin, Jewish, Muslim, and Indian communities. He emphasized that this period of change brings numerous stories and layers to the town. “As deputy mayor, not only do I witness it, but I take part in making it a reality this is so incredible,” he concluded. 

Loknath (Loki) Swain, President of the Innisfil Indian Association, expressed his desire to bring together diverse cultures from the east, south, west, and every part of India, fostering unity and cultural exchange.

“We hope we bring these kinds of festivals in the coming future and show to the Town of Innisfil what our traditions are, cultures are, and hope people enjoy it,” he said. 

The Innisfil Indian Association will be celebrating the town’s first Indian Independence Day on August 15. Swain said "the town of Innisfil has never seen the tricolour (Indian fld) being hosted. So I am really proud of it.”

The celebration also featured Bharatanatyam (traditional Indian dance) performances by Namratha Sankar and Nydila.
