The Township of Schreiber has reduced the number of council meetings to once a month for the summer period. This gives the Mayor and his councillors and staff will have a much needed break from the twice monthly meetings however there will still be the occasional emergency and closed sessions when required.

This only meeting in June opened with approval of the agenda and acceptance of the minutes of last months meeting. There was no new business arising from the minutes.

On the agenda:

• A resolution to approve the recreation departments implementation of  a geocaching project to encourage virtual treasure hunts in our area.
• A sponsorship to the Aguasabon golf club was approved. 
• Bank payments were all approved.
• OCWA drinking water financial plan was accepted.
• CQNS marketing planners agreement between the township of Schreiber for services regarding upcoming marketing strategy.

 
Committee of the whole segment opened with the director of operations report:

• Repair work to the Schreiber arena infrastructure approved
• Waste water treatment plant electrical repair work approved
• The entries for the mural project finalists have been received 
• Downtown revitalization funding was discussed in regards to contractors cost
• Senior committee report highlighted the various projects that will be implemented during this summer

Under Communications there were many requests for support for different issues from other communities. MPs have also appeared looking for endorsement of various actions with no specific names or items actually being mentioned. A request of support to prevent a capital gains tax on primary residence caught the eye of Councillor McGrath and was discussed. Another request for support for eliminating or reducing the control of the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) in regards to planning projects. 

Finally unfinished business opened with a discussion on “Flag Policy” with the intention of providing uniformity and transparency with issues surround the proper use of various flags in municipalities. 

The last item centred around animal control bylaws including animal welfare. Council would end up having more control over enforcing issues related to the health and welfare of animals.

The ongoing topic of a dog walk park is getting closer to being finalized.
