The first meeting of the Schreiber council for April 2022 highlighted some issues the municipality is facing.

First up was the approval of the agenda and the acceptance of minutes of previous meetings.
As per usual, the proceedings were rushed along with no explanations given when resolutions and bylaws are adopted. A perfect example this evening is “Resolution 54-22” that was rescinded. Not one mention of what it was about. 

Also on the agenda: 

• Purchase of the Volvo loader is nearing completion and a quotation from Strong Co was accepted after a discussion about delivery and price. There appears to be confusion over what is being bought and when to accept delivery.
• Approval of Councillor Stefurak to attend the Thunder Bay District Municipal League and expenses carried.
• All accounts for payment and debit orders were accepted and ratified.
• Adoption of Schreiber Asset management plan was approved.
• An amendment to the cemetery bylaw was carried.

Committee of the Whole:

• Director of operations report: Sidewalk blower is in for repairs, pot holes in the road are being repaired, refuse containers for dog walk to be placed, adverse water quality report shows a reduction in chlorine content, water flow meter to be replaced at treatment plant.
• Bylaw enforcement report: minimum property standards and maintenance bylaw to be altered forcing many owners to incur additional expenses and face fines.
• Senior coordinator report: 240 new chairs will be purchased with help of a grant.
• Fire chief report: bunker gear to be purchased, fire safety plans to be finalized.
• Schreiber Public Library board: interviews are ongoing for head librarian replacement.
• OCWA report: waste water treatment plant updates discussed.
• OPP police report: no real changes compared to last year.

Communications:

• Housing survey to be released soon.
• Oxford power is still trying to pursue approval for a hydro electric project.

Other Business:

• AMMO general meeting and conference in Ottawa was discussed.
• NOMA conference is upcoming.
• Reschedule of next council meeting.
