Schreiber council meeting for May 24, 2022
Schreiber Council met for the last meeting of May. With just a few more months until the summer heritage event kicks off there were quite a few items that needed attention.
- First item is the approval of the minutes of the previous meeting(s) including the closed sessions.
- The 2021-22 drinking water assessment report was accepted with no discussion.
- Purchasing of items to be sold and pamphlets for distribution at the discovery centre kiosk was approved.
Other business
- A bylaw to authorize the sale of the old town garage was approved.
Committee of the Whole:
- Director of operations update confirmed that the water supply was up to standard and a new employee will be joining the water department once accommodation can be secured.
- Pigeon control has been a problem in many locations and a solution has been implemented but no mention of what was involved.
- Health and safety committee request to have Schreiber accept the terms of reference.
- Accessibility plan has been revised and should be adopted at next meeting. Barriers to access will have to be identified and rectified by 2025.
- Surplus chairs will be sold off now that new items have been procured by the senior centre.
- Downtown revitalization schedule for the splash pad confirms the project will only be completed by the end of summer.
- Recreation programmer report highlights the updated budget for the year.
- A band has been confirmed for the heritage days festival.
- Canada day events are being planned with co-operation from the senior centre.
- Bylaw officer report mentions no feeding wildlife regulations.
- Senior programmer report highlighted ongoing programmes at the senior centre.
- Beautification committee report focused on relocating and replacing older planters.
- Water and wastewater report had no issues to report.
Communications:
- Open house at food bank event will be attended.
- Prom committee requests for high school event confirmed pending approved chaperones.
Other business requested help with grant in aid for art show in Rossport. Councillors seem confused on request and discussed at length but was eventually denied.

Schreiber Community Media est une organisation à but non lucratif créée dans le but de fournir des services de production médiatique et de formation aux habitants de Schreiber et des environs. Schreiber est situé sur la rive nord du lac Supérieur, à environ deux heures à l'est de Thunder Bay.
Le centre multimédia Schreiber se trouve dans la bibliothèque publique de Schreiber et comprend des outils pour l'enregistrement, la diffusion en direct et la post-production audio et vidéo.
