Schreiber council met for its first meeting of the month on June 14.The agenda was as follows:

• The minutes of the previous and special council meetings were adopted and carried.
• The joint health and safety committee authorized the Mayor and CAO to sign any upcoming documents in the future.
• Council declared the older chairs and four trolleys as surplus assets and have put them up for sale at a starting bid of $2500.
• The recreation programmer has been approved to sign a contract with the Sensational Hot Rods band to perform at the Heritage Days festival. The recreation committees plan for the Canada day event has been approved. An announcement will be made as to what the event will entail. The Lake Superior prog committee was approved a grant in aid for the use of the recreational centre hall to hold their prom event.
• Bank debits and cheques issued for the month of May were approved and ratified.
• A bylaw to authorize the sale of land on 107 Ontario Street was approved.
• The old accessibility bylaw was replaced with an updated version. 

Committee of the Whole Department reports

• CAO report on community safety and well being plan was presented by CAO Nathan Dias. A short explanation of the plan and feasibility study followed. This will be a shared programme with Terrace Bay.
• Treasurer report highlighted the issue of councillor expenses remuneration.
• Director of Operations report involved a status update on the heating system at the municipal complex. Smoke has been appearing from the stacks on the building and it seems that the old boiler might be the cause.
• Occupational health and safety meeting minutes were submitted.
• Recreation programmer updates on Canada Day road closures behind the municipal complex in order to conduct the soap box race.
• Bylaw officer report was discussed and lead to a discussion about property standards violations. The enforcement of the bylaw for property standards is a contentious one as some of the standards have been difficult for many residents to adhere to. 
• Schreiber Public Library minutes highlighted that the current CAO, Donna Mikeluk was officially retiring and a come and go day will be held in her honour.
• Fire Department activity report started a conversation about expenses involved in removing damaged property at accident sites.
• OPP report showed no real issues.
• Director of Operations also reported on upgrades of door openers. Washroom accessibility is also being put forward.
• Security system at the new Discovery Centre was discussed and will add further expense to the opening of the project in July.

Communications raised a concern with rural school closures. Not enough information was presented but Schreiber will support any efforts to prevent school closures in rural areas.
The topic of Municipal insurance is still causing concern amongst smaller municipalities and the costs for liability policies are escalating.

Unfinished Business discussed who would be attending the AMO conference in Ottawa. It seems that none of the councillors are making ant effort to attend such an important event.

Other Business confirmed that there will only be one council meeting in July and one meeting in August as council enters the summer recess. 
A draft Lame Duck bylaw needs to be approved as the fall election approaches. If less than 4 out of 5 candidates of the current council step down or don’t seek re election a Lame Duck council will be declared.
The discussion occurred about a mine start up and long term effects for the town.
