Valley Watch: Cache Creek Village Council Report

On Valley News Channel on Wednesday, May 18th, 2022 we’ll let you know what happened at this week’s Cache Creek Village Council. A new display will be popping up at the Cache Creek Visitor Centre, and speeding on Quartz and Stage road is also discussed. And, a response from Ashcroft RCMP and Cache Creek CAO Damien Couture and Councilor Wendy Coomber, who attended the SILGA event in Salmon Arm last month. They will share what they saw at the event and how having big ideas can help build small communities like Cache Creek.

Today we’re in Cache Creek where we will go over the key highlights from the Cache Creek Village Council on May 16th, 2022. We will be digger deeper into a few stories and we’ll share them with you as they unfold.

But first, CAO Damien Couture and Councilor Wendy Comber attended the 2022 SILGA convention valley TV spoke with Councilor Coomber about the event. CAO Damien Couture followed up with his comments, saying there were some great ideas around a food hub, innovation hub. And, he was really interested in a workshop put on by Sam Samadar of the Kelowna International Airport on how rural communities can better utilize the Cache Creek airport.

So, the Question is -- Cache Creek ready for innovative ideas? You tell us from the three top topics discussed from SILGA 2022 what you think we should consider bringing to Cache Creek.

A.    Food Hub with a Commercial Kitchen
B.    An innovation Centre with space for technology entrepreneurs
C.    An airport hangar with residential space for Flight students

Or have a new idea… comment your idea down below!

Complaints from the community of increased speeding on Stage Road and Quartz conversations were discussion what could be done about the speeding in the meeting. CAO Damien Couture said that he’s spoken with officials about putting up signage but that it would not help. However, adding painting parking lines or adding bike lanes only to our streets would be cost effective and would assist with drivers slowing down. We will continue to follow this if anything further unfolds, however we spoke with the Ashcroft RCMP to see what was being done on speeding for the safety of our youth and community walking along those streets.

Cache Creek Village council also approved the request to install a wildlife display. Kat Chatten will be working to display wildlife photos and written information that will go along with the corridor in the basement of the community hall. We spoke with Kat Chatten at the Cache Creek Visitor Centre -- he will be providing an inside look into the photography display tomorrow, but first we hear from CAO Damien Couture about the Display

National Public Works Week and the Village of Cache Creek staff will celebrate with a BBQ. The Village Council also approved to close the office at 1pm on May 19th for National Public Works Week. The staff will prepare and attend a BBQ in support and celebration of the Public Work staff. This will be a combined celebration between Cache Creek, Ashcroft, and Clinton public works staff.

That’s what happened in Cache Creek for the week of May 16th to the 20th of 2022.
