Schreiber holds Remembrance Day event
Branch 109 of the Royal Legion in Schreiber once again asked the Schreiber Media Centre to participate in this years Remembrance Day ceremony.
This is the 3rd year that the Schreiber Media Centre produced a live stream of the 2022 Remembrance Day ceremony. Due to rather slow performing internet, like in previous years, the media centre set up cameras at the cenotaph and streamed the event live to just over 100 viewers. Also, as was done in the past, the camera recordings were reformatted into a full HD quality Youtube video and posted on the SMC YouTube site.
One of the toughest challenges at his time of year is the unpredictable weather and this year would be no different. Freezing temperatures and howling winds made it quite difficult to capture the mood of the event. Three years ago the event took on an even more sombre tone as most people had been advised not to participate in activities involving crowds. The following year was slightly more attended but this year was the first time that so many turned out to witness the Remembrance Day ceremony. Brave souls endured the harsh conditions and turned up. They lined up for an entire block flanking the north side of Scotia street, while the organizers and wreath layers gathered on the south east side waiting their turn to lay a wreath in honour of the fallen soldiers.
Many businesses and families all presented wreaths at the cenotaph after the initial opening ceremonies, hosted by former legion president Gary Marsh. Mr. Marsh oversaw the presentation and announced the participants and lead the proceedings. Many young people attended this year as well with some seniors remaining at home to watch the streamed event from their homes. Many residents remained for a few minutes after the ceremony and eventually made their way to the Legion where warm beverages were being served.
