The Wondrous Tree Fellowship of Tri-Cities works to protect, advocate and educate the public about trees
Nancy Furness interviews horticulturalist James Bobick the Wondrous Tree Fellowship in the Tri-Cities. They are group who work to protect, advocate and educate the public about trees. Celebrating trees is also part of what they do and they get involved in various city events such as the annual Rotary Club parade.
Boric talks about the positive impact of trees, and also threats. As he explains, a healthy urban forest provides valuable ecological services, mitigates the effects of climate change, and is critical to our physical & mental health. Our urban forest is under threat due to increased development, population pressures, and the effects of a rapidly changing climate.The good news is that Tri-Cities municipalities are currently developing urban forest management strategies.
On Tuesday March 7th the Wondrous Tree Fellowship, in partnership with the Burke Mountain Naturalists, will be hosting the Tri-Cities Urban Forest Forum at Douglas Collage in Coquitlam from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. ( Lecture Theatre A1470 ) The Tri-Cities Urban Forest Forum will offer an opportunity for experts, elected representatives, city staff, & members of the public to explore a shared vision & best management practices to ensure a healthy future for our urban forest.
Speakers at this event will include ; Richard Boase - Environmental Sustainability (Operations), District of North Vancouver; Lorien Nesbitt - Assistant Professor, Urban Forestry & Environmental Justice; UBC Amelia Needoba - Principal & Senior Forester; Diamond Head Consulting Erika Mashig - Manager of Arboriculture, Horticulture, Parks & Open Space Planning, City of New Westminster. Tri-Cities Community TV will bring you coverage of this event.
Many tales can be told by our beautiful trees and the Wondrous Tree Fellowship strives to celebrate these stories as part of our shared history.
