Terrace Bay focuses on Tourism and Accessibility

After a quick amendment to the agenda was tabled, the meeting commenced. The first item up was the adoption of minutes from the previous meeting in April. CAO John small then brought forward a motion to accept a new member on the housing board.

The Spring clean up was discussed and residents of both Schreiber and Terrace Bay will be able dispose of used goods and have them taken to the landfill at no charge.

Bear season is fast approaching as spring finally gets underway. During this time a request for interested parties to help with the bear trapping will be posted on the Terrace Bay website. The hope is that at least two people and ideally 3 people will volunteer.

The Accessibility Plan is up for review this year and with new legislation there will have to be some updates to the existing policy. These reviews occur every five years with the intention of removing barriers in the community to accessibility.

Director of Operations, Ryan Falzetto, presented his report with regards to improving lightning strike capabilities and back up power systems to safeguard the water plant. This work is mandatory in order to maintain compliance with the Clean Water Act.

The Recreation Director report highlights the Arena usage for the last season. There was a slight rise in attendance compared to last year and this report helps to guide budget considerations for the next season.

The Tourism marketing plan update was presented. The report highlighted trends in tourism and suggests areas of interest than can be focussed on over the next five years. Terrace Bay is focussed on the tourism industry and the Beach Pavilion project that opened last year is the first phase of this plan. New wayfinding signs are also being designed to compliment the existing signs in line with the branding of Terrace Bay.

Under Communications, a request for support was made by the high school for boutineers and corsages for the graduating students.

Next up was a discussion on implementing more support for policies in regards to workplace harassment and to increasing diversity in municipalities. Bill 5 is currently being discussed at a provincial level and will be supported by this council.

All bylaws derived from this meeting were passed and Councillor Dube then presented his Library report. The library is currently in the process of identifying and archiving its entire collection. The meeting moved into a closed session.
