Navigating the Career Journey: Challenges for New Professional Immigrants

As British Columbia's economy and job market continue to grow, employers and communities are looking for workers in many different areas.

Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants is a program offered by the Immigrant Services Society of British Columbia (ISSofBC). The program helps professionals use their skills, training, and foreign qualifications to find meaningful work in B.C that match their experience and background.

In this episode, we have the privilege of interviewing two knowledgeable professionals who are at the forefront of supporting new immigrants in British Columbia with their career journeys. Bita Firouzian, Assistant Manager of Client Services, and Maneli Siadati, Career Strategist, both bring a wealth of expertise from their time at Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants.

The discussion delves into the challenges that new immigrants encounter when trying to secure employment in BC.   • Canadian work experience opportunities – for example, through work-study programs or related jobs in an industry

  • Construction and Engineering anywhere in BC
  • Technology anywhere in BC. Regulated professions in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and Cariboo North
  • Unregulated professions in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and Cariboo North
